One of the works of Adi Sankara - Prashnottararatnamala ("precious necklace of questions and answers") in Sanskrit is designed to elevate the seeker through the answers to the doubts that may arise in the mind of devoted followers. The work has been recently translated into Japanese.

1。 お 神様 !   何れ を 取れば  いいん ですか?

O Lord, which is to be taken?

師匠  が 教えた こと です。

The utterences of the preceptor.

2。  何れ に したかえば いいんんです か?

What is  more beneficial  than anything else?

善道 。

Righteousness

3。 毒 と いう のは なん です か?

What is poison?

ししょう に 教えて いただいた こと  を  は  ずれる こと です。

Transgression of preceptor's orders.

4。 人間 が もっとも 望んで いる こと は なん  ですか?

What is the most desirable for human brings?

全て の 人 の ために じぶん の 生活  を  捧げ る こと です。

5。 泥棒 は 誰 ですか?

Who are thieves?

じぶん の 欲。

Objects of sense.

6。  敵  は誰 です か?

        who is the foe?

         無為。

         It is but idleness.

7。   偉大 の 原因 は なん です か?
        
          What is the  of greatness?

         誰にも  お願い を しない こと です。

          That which is known as not asking favours.

8。  不祝儀 な の は なん ですか?

         What is unhappiness?
 
         楽しそう でわない ようす。

          Cheerlessness.

9。  愚か な の は なん ですか?

         What is unintelligence?

       なたった こと を 反復 できない ようす。

        Not repeating what is learnt.

10。ハス の葉っぱの  水 の ような
        不定な の は なん ですか?

         What is transient like the water on the lotus leaf?

        富み、若さ、命。

        Youth, Wealth and life.                            

11。 価千金  と いう の は なんです か?

          What is priceless?

         適当な とき に あたえられた もの です。

          That which is given at the right movement.

12。 死亡 まで 軸 の ように 痛み を する の は 何 ですか?

         What pains like a shaft till death?

         隠し立てに 犯した 罪。

          The sin committed in secrecy.

13。  努力 は どこで 果たされますか?

          Where is the effort obtained?

          習っている とき、寛大、いい薬。

          In learning, charity,good medicine.
               
14。 世界 は 誰に 征服 できますか?

          By whom is the world conquered?
          
          忍耐 と誠実 を 持って いる 人 に。

          By the person who has truthfulness and endurance.

15。  生き物 は  誰 のコントロル に 生きる いるん です か?
 
           In whose control lies the community of creatures?
        
           親切で 謙遜 して 真実 を  話している 人 に。
 
           One who speaks the truth, is kindly and humble.

16。   何 に 執着する べきですか?

            To what should one stick?
         正しい経路  『見られて見えない利益が富むに』

         To the right path where in the seen and the unseen profits abound.

17。 寛大 と 言う の は なん ですか?

         What is charity?
  
         みかえり を もとめない よす。
 
          Expecting no return.
       
18。 友達 は誰 です か?
 
         Who is a friend?

         罪 から 守る 人。

          One who saves from sin.

19。  特に、暗い,無知を破壊した人が、繰り返して何を促しますか?

          what do those who have destroyed dark ignorance specially urge repeatedly?

           寛大 と 伴う 良い言葉、謙遜がある知識、 忍耐がある勇気、 放棄がある富。

            これらの  四つの 良いものは 達しにくいです。
              
 Charity along with sweet words, Knowledge with humility, courage with patience, wealth with renunciation.  These four auspicious things are hard to attain.         
 
20。 深く悲しまれること は 何 です か?

         Who is to be grieved over?

         吝嗇
 
          Miserliness.
       
21。 避ける べき 場所 は どこ ですあ?

          Which place is to be shunned?
        
         極道 な 人々に富んで いる 人 と 貪欲な王に統治されます。

         One abounding in wicked people and ruled by the greedy king.
   
 22。昼 も  夜も    思い入て る の は なんです か?

         What is contemplated day and night?
         
         世界てき な 生活 を 考えず、いつも 神様 について 考えて いる こと。
 
          The feet of the lord, not the worldly life.

23。世界 で  悲しまれる  人 だれ ですか?
 
          Who is to be grieved over in this world?

        沢山 の お金 を 持っていても 誰 に あげない 人。

         One who is not a giver even when there is wealth.

24。 人々によって得られること は 何 です か?
 
         What is to be earned by people?
        
         知識、富、強さ、名声、有功。
 
          Knowledge, wealth, strength, fame, ment.

25。 良質 を 破壊 する の は  なんですか?
        
          Which is the destroyer of all good qualities?
 
         欲  『心』
        
          Greed.
 
26。 敵 は 誰 です か?
 
        Who is the enemy?
   
         色情

          Lust.

27。 よく 守られる の は なんです か?

           What is to be well protected?

          良い名前、良妻、洞察力 。
 
           Good name, devoted wife and discernment.
    
28。 世界 で カルパクリーパー は なんです か?

          What is the Kalpa creeper in the world?

         熱心な 学生に 伝えられた 知識。

          Knowledge imparted to the earnest student.

29。 極悪 は なんです か?
          
         What, too, is heinous?

         残酷。
        
         Cruelty.

30。 死ぬ  こと より もっと  痛み を する おと は  なん です か?
        
          What is more painful than death to a respected person?

         悪評。
 
          Infamy.

31。誰 が 育つ?

        Who grows?

        謙遜。
 
        The humble.

32。 体に とって いい こと は 何 です か?

         What is good fortune for those who have body?

         健康 。

         Health.

33。世界 を まもって いる の は 誰 です か?

        Who is the protector of the world?
       太陽。

        The Sun.

34。皆の 暮らしの 原因  は 何ですか?
        
         What is the cause of livelihood  for everyone?
  
         雨。

          That is rain.
         
35。 勇敢 な の は  だれ ですか?
 
         Who is brave?

         恐怖 から まもる 人 。

          One who protects those in fright.
 
36。  この まもる 人 は  誰 です か?

           And who is the protector?

           師匠。
 
           It is the preceptor?

37。  一番  知覚  な 女神 は 誰 です か?
 
           Who is the perceptible goddess?

           お母様 。
          
            Mother.

38。  一番  尊敬  される   師匠 は   誰 です か?

        And who is the preceptor to be honoured?

         お父様 。

39。 食物 を 贈り物と して 受取 人 は だれ ですか?
 
          Who is the fit recipient of the gift of food?

           腹。

           The hungry.
