Pujya Shankaracharya Swamigal's visit to Sri Azhagar Kovil

Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipati Pujyashri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swamigal visited Sri Azhagar Kovil, one of the sacred 108 Divya Desams revered in the Vaishnava tradition.
Upon arrival, His Holiness was accorded a traditional reception by the temple priests and officials, complete with Poornakumbham and Nadaswaram.
Upon entering the temple, His Holiness was escorted through its ancient and intricately designed Gopurams. The temple, situated within a historic fort and surrounded by the seven hills, stands as a remarkable example of ancient temple architecture and spiritual heritage. The priests and officials explained the architectural, historical, and spiritual significance of the various structures and features.
The Sthala Vriksha of the temple is the Sandalwood tree, which holds a special place in the sacred traditions associated with the temple.
His Holiness was then escorted into the Sanctum Sanctorum of Sri Mahavishnu, the presiding deity, who is worshipped here as Sri Azhagar, also known as Sundararajan. The devotional atmosphere was enhanced by the chanting of the Narayana Suktam, while Vishesha poojas were performed to the Lord.
It is a distinctive tradition of the temple that the Moola Moorthi of Sri Azhagar is adorned exclusively with golden ornaments. As part of the temple’s traditional worship, ghee is applied to the deity.
Following the Darshan and Vishesha Poojas, Pujya Swamiji was presented with the traditional Temple Honours, Teertham, and Satari.
Thereafter, the temple priests escorted Pujya Swamiji through the outer Prakaram, explaining the spiritual significance of the various Sannidhis, architectural features, and the intricate designs adorning the Gopurams.
His Holiness subsequently had Darshan at the various Sannidhis within the temple, including the Sri Kalyana Sundaravalli Thayar Sannidhi, Sri Yoga Narasimha Sannidhi, who's diety was adorned with Silver and Andal Sannidhi, where Vishesha Poojas were performed.
Following the Darshan, His Holiness blessed the volunteers engaged in cleaning and maintaining the temple premises as part of their Seva, appreciating their dedicated service to the temple. Thereafter, the temple priests and officials were honoured in the presence of, and with the blessings of Pujya Swamigal.
