Glimpses from Pujyashri Shankaracharya's visits on 28 Sep, 2026 as part of Madurai Vijaya Yatra.



His Holiness's visit to Pazhamudircholai and Noopuragangai theertham #28th September 2026 His Holiness visited the Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple, the sixth of the sacred Arupadaiveedu of Lord Murugan. Upon arrival, His Holiness was accorded a traditional reception by the temple officials and priests with Poornakumbham and Nadaswaram, and was presented with Swami Prasadam. Upon entering the temple premises, His Holiness had Darshan of Sri Vithaga Vinayakar, and witnessed the Deeparadhana performed to the deity. He was subsequently presented with the Swami Prasadam.Thereafter, Pujya Swamiji had Darshan of Sri Valli Deivanai Sametha Subramanya Swami, and witnessed the Archana and Deeparadhana performed to the presiding deity. Pujya Swamiji was then presented with the sacred Prasadam. Following this, His Holiness had Darshan of the Swayambhoo Vel, the sacred and self-manifested Vel associated with Lord Murugan. Subsequently, Pujya Swamiji had Darshan of the Utsava Moorthies. Thereafter, temple honours were presented to His Holiness by the temple authorities.Following the Darshan and temple honours, the temple officials and priests were honoured in the presence of, and with the blessings of, Pujya Swamiji. His Holiness was then escorted by the temple priests to Noopuragangai Theertham. The priests explained to His Holiness the historical, traditional, and spiritual significance of the sacred Theertham. Pujya Swamiji subsequently had Darshan of Sri Rakkayee Amman. Hereafter, His Holiness proceeded to the source of the sacred Noopuragangai, where he had Darshan of the holy origin of the Theertham , performing Prokshanam admist Vedic chants. His Holiness’s Visit to Sri Azhagar Kovil His Holiness visited Sri Azhagar Kovil, one of the sacred 108 Divya Desams revered in the Vaishnava tradition.Upon arrival, His Holiness was accorded a traditional reception by the temple priests and officials, complete with Poornakumbham and Nadaswaram. Upon entering the temple, His Holiness was escorted through its ancient and intricately designed Gopurams. The temple, situated within a historic fort and surrounded by the seven hills, stands as a remarkable example of ancient temple architecture and spiritual heritage. As His Holiness was escorted through the temple premises, the priests and officials explained the architectural, historical, and spiritual significance of the various structures and features.The Sthala Vriksha of the temple is the Sandalwood tree, which holds a special place in the sacred traditions associated with the temple. His Holiness was then escorted into the Sanctum Sanctorum of Sri Mahavishnu, the presiding deity, who is worshipped here as Sri Azhagar, also known as Sundararajan. The devotional atmosphere was enhanced by the chanting of the Narayana Suktam, while His Holiness witnessed the Vishesha Poojas performed to the Lord. It is a distinctive tradition of the temple that the Moola Moorthi of Sri Azhagar is adorned exclusively with golden ornaments. As part of the temple’s traditional worship, ghee is applied to the deity. Following the Darshan and Vishesha Poojas, Pujya Swamiji was presented with the traditional Temple Honours, Theertham, and Satari. Thereafter, the temple priests escorted Pujya Swamiji through the outer Prakaram, explaining the spiritual significance of the various Sannidhis, architectural features, and the intricate designs adorning the Gopurams. His Holiness subsequently had Darshan at the various Sannidhis within the temple, including the Sri Kalyana Sundaravalli Thayar Sannidhi, Yoga Narasimha Sannidhi, whos diety was adorned with Silver and Andal Sannidhi, where Vishesha Poojas were performed. Following the Darshan, His Holiness blessed the volunteers engaged in cleaning and maintaining the temple premises as part of their Seva, appreciating their dedicated service to the temple. His Holiness visited Sri Vishnu Durgai Amman Temple & Sri Elavrkuzhali Sametha Edaganathar Swami Temple-Thiruvedagam near the Vaigai river. Later, Pujyashri Shankaracharya Swamigal blessed the meeting convened by RSS at Sundaram Hall, Madurai. Pujya Swamiji gave Anugraha Bhashanam, emphasizing the vital need to preserve traditional Bharatiya values, promote moral education (Samskaras), and support family structures, the importance of selfless community service (Seva), unity across societal strata,the imperative of protecting indigenous traditions, Sanskrit and regional languages, and active participation in local temple upkeep and rituals.
