Shankara Jayanti Mahotsavam celebrated

Sri Adi Sankara Jayanti was celebrated amidst festive mood as people gathered at Shrimatam camp in Thoraipakkam in the benign presence of HH Pujya Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal. Utsava murti of Sri Adi Sankara was decorated, placed on a palanquin and taken in procession. The procession headed by His Holiness comprised of Melam, Veda chanting, Vishnu Sahasranama parayana, Bhajans and Nama Sankeertanam, sung in praise of the Jagadguru Sri Adi Sankara. The procession started from Sri Gangai Amman temple on the OMR Road, and concluded at Sri Sankara Matriculation school, Thoraipakkam. Devotees participated in the procession remembering the timeless contributions that the great saint had made. Several onlookers & even passers-by witnessed the procession with reverence and Prasadam was given to them. After the procession reached Srimatam camp at the School, Totakashtakam was chanted and harathi performed. The event concluded with Prasada distribution. Earlier in the day Shankara Avatara Ghatta parayana was held after Trikala Puja at the Sannidhi. Bija-danam was given after the Avataraghatta rendition. Chaturveda Parayana Purthi & Avahanthi Havan was performed. Several functions were held including certificate distribution to Vedapathis (Poorti Pariksha Certificate Distribution), book releases, speeches, bhajans. Shankara Jayanti was also celebrated at Shrimatam in Kanchipuram as a five-day festival culminating with the Swarna Rathotsavam on the Jayanti day. Shankara Jayanti was celebrated at various Shrimatam branches and other places in India and abroad.
