Shankara Jayanti Mahotsav celebrated at Srinagar, J &K

With the Benign Blessings of His Holiness Jagdguru Pujyasri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swamiji of Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Shankara Jayanti Mahotsav was celebrated at Srinagar, Kashmir, and Veda Sammelan was conducted at Shankaracharya Hill, Srinagar, J&K from 3 to 9 May this year. Each year, a different Veda Shakha forms the primary theme of chanting, and this year, it was the Atharva Veda. Kashmir is famous for the Atharva Veda - Paipalada Shakha.

The Annual Shankara Jayanti Mahotsav commenced here at Srinagar with Go Puja and Ganapati Puja. Kalasa Sthapanam was performed. Rigveda Samhita Havan, Atharva Veda Parayanam, Yajur Veda Parayanam and Sama Veda Parayanam were performed on all days. Visesha Havans including the following were performed: 3rd May - Ganapati Homam and Navagraha Homam 4th May - Durga Sukta Homam 5th May - Traidhataviya Ishti 6th May - Prakruta Ishti 7th May - Mitravinda Ishti 8th May - Indravaruna Ishti 9th May - Mrugara Ishti In the evenings, Swasti Vachanam, Totakashtakam, Vishnu Sahasranama parayanam were performed at the Jyeshta Mata Sannadhi, followed by Avadharaya during Harati. Sampradaya Bhajans were performed every evening by Shri. Dr. Ganesh and party. On Sri Shankara Jayanti Day - Vaishakha Shukla Panchami - 9 May 2019, Abhishekam, Arachana and Parayanam was done at Shankaracharya Hill. Adi Shankara Avatara Ghatta Parayanam was performed. Veda Parayana Purti and Poornahuti took place. The programme concluded with Ritvik Sambhavana. It is important to observe that with the benign blessings of Pujyashri Acharyas, Shankara Jayanthi is being celebrated annually at Shankaracharya Hill in Kashmir since 2012, and each year's programme is uniquely designed with different Veda Shakhas and other stotras being chanted. A large number of Veda Pandits and devotees participated in the Shankara Jayanti Mahotsavam and received the blessings of the Acharyas.
